Salt: The Essential Mineral

Salt is everywhere. In the human body, it’s in our blood, sweat, and tears literally. Plus, it’s in many of the foods we eat everyday. Even some fruits and vegetables have a natural sodium content in them. Most proteins as well. So salt as an essential mineral is unavoidable and for good reason. In the right doses all around us, it can be a true health benefit.

What Is Salt?

Salt is a primary mineral that is sodium chloride. It’s on the periodic table of elements with the designation of “Na” as its atomic symbol. Salt can develop in rock form or is harvested from the various seas that contain this naturally occurring element. Sodium is actually the fourth most occurring element on the Earth.

Some of the earliest processing of salt took place over 8,000 years ago. So the many benefits of using this element have been known for quite some time.

Our Bodies and Salt

How much of the human body is made up of salt? It’s estimated that salt is 0.4 percent of the body’s weight. It’s around the same amount in sea water. So humans on the whole are a salty bunch! We lose salt as we sweat, so it’s essential for our health to replace it with the foods and beverages we drink.

Salt Therapy For a Variety of Conditions

This beneficial element is also used in salt therapy, otherwise known as halotherapy. Salt itself when arated through the air, can benefit the body in many ways. It can purify the skin, helping to heal various skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis. Plus, when dealing with respiratory or breathing issues, taking in the salt air orally can be a way to open those passageways up. For those with breathing issues, such as COPD, asthma, or allergies can greatly benefit from this form of natural, non-invasive treatment.

Just Sit and Breathe It In

That’s all there is to taking in the salty air of our Salt Suite rooms. The “halogenerator” does all the work by pumping salt particles throughout the sterile rooms for you to inhale. Just sit back, relax, and breathe as you normally would. Each session lasts about 45 minutes, with comfy chairs and a calm environment. You can read, listen to soft music on your device, or even play on a tablet if that’s what you choose to do during your therapy sessions.

The kids rooms are equipped with fun toys and books, just for them. You can stay with your child during the sessions to make them more comfortable.

During a typical adult session customers put their feet up in a comfortable leather chair rest or read and breathe in a dry salt aerosol. The micro particles are blown in the air by halo generators. In our separate children’s room kids play in a big sand box except with salt on the walls and floor and play while breathing in the dry salt air.
