We completely understand if you have any jitters about your first session, but don’t worry, you’re in good hands.
Several questions might be going through your mind, from what kind of clothing to wear to what to expect during a session. No need to be in the dark. In this article, we’ll walk you through what you need to do to prepare and what your session will be like. Ready? Let’s dive in.
Before your salt therapy session
Our clients are at the heart of everything we do at The Salt Suite®. Scheduling an appointment online at one of our locations is a breeze. We even offer the first session free at select locations.
We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes early for your session. Our team will listen to your health and wellness goals and create a custom plan for you.
You’ll also hear an audio introduction that will explain what you need to know to enjoy your time in the salt cave.
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing, preferably in light colors since salt will show more on dark colors. Please also wear socks.
We also ask that you refrain from wearing scents (perfume, smoke, etc.) as a courtesy to scent-sensitive guests. The session will be 45 minutes long.
During your session
Prepare to see a different environment than you’ve seen before. The walls and floors will be covered with salt, and there will be recliners to sit in for your session. A device known as the halogenator will grind and disperse pharmaceutical-grade salt into the salt cave.
We play reflective music in the background while you recline, relax, and breathe in microscopic, airway-cleaning, skin-soothing salt particles. Your space also has dividers for privacy. Remember that this is your time so you just have to sit back and relax.
Read a book, meditate, browse your smartphone, or even take a nap as the salt particles penetrate deep within your respiratory system and become absorbed in your skin. You can bring electronic devices like phones and tablets into the salt cave. But please bring headphones so you don’t disturb others. We also don’t allow phone calls. For your first session, we always suggest that you leave the phone behind, listen to our introduction to salt therapy, and enjoy one of our meditations or spa music.
As a first-timer, you might experience a slight tickle in your throat – but that’s just the salt doing its job. You also may cough or hear a couple of coughs from across the room. There’s no cause for alarm, though, as no bacteria can survive in such a salty environment.
Salt has a calming effect on your body so be prepared to relax and unwind during your salt therapy session. You deserve this soothing time to yourself.
After your session
Many people experience the draining of their sinus right away or hours later after their first session. Several people also say that they get better, deeper sleep the same night. Generally, you can expect to feel lighter and renewed – as if you’ve floated into a relaxing state of euphoria.

You can opt for our salt booth sessions that are 15 minutes long if you have a very busy schedule. Our salt booths are private one or two-person chambers. You can also opt for a mix of salt cave and salt booth sessions.
